Mission Beach

Located between Townsville and Cairns, Mission beach is made up of four villages connected by over 10km of beautiful beachfront. The area is a popular tourist destination for swimming, surfing, sightseeing, nature walks and tours.

Some highlights include:

  • High population of native wildlife, including 36% of Australian bird species and the biggest population of cassowaries in Australia
  • Two world heritage areas meeting together: the Wet tropics and the Great Barrier Reef
  • Breathtaking birds-eye views of both world heritage areas from the only lava headland in Australia (Clump Point)
  • Rainforests: the largest fan palm rainforest in Australia and the biggest section of lowland rainforest south of the Daintree
  • Reefs: Great Barrier Reef, largest areas of mainland fringing reefs between Bowen and Port Douglas
  • Diverse Flora: 20% of the world's seagrass species and 35% of the world's species of Mangroves
